Amish Conversion Testimony | Founder of Equipter | Praying for Revival among the Amish in Lancaster County

My wife Lydia and I grew up Old Order Amish in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania—without electricity, television, or modern technology—fully expecting to remain Amish for life. After a rebellious teenage season known as Rumspringa, marked by emptiness, I sold my car, was baptized into the Amish church, and married at age 19. We settled into farming, milking dairy cows and working the fields with horses, carefully following the Amish traditions and rules we had been taught.

Yet deep inside I carried unanswered questions. I still carried a deep emptiness inside.

An Amish Conversion Testimony

On August 23, 1986, someone asked me a simple but piercing question: “How is your personal relationship with Jesus Christ?”

The next morning at 4:00 a.m., kneeling in the pasture of our Lancaster County Amish farm, I fully surrendered everything to Jesus Christ. In that moment I was born again. The heavy weight of guilt and condemnation lifted completely. A deep, lasting peace and overflowing joy flooded my soul as the Holy Spirit entered my life. I knew—beyond any doubt—that the blood of Jesus had washed all my sins away.

I was forgiven.
I was free.
I was transformed.

The Spiritual Battle and Leaving the Amish Traditions

What followed was an intense spiritual battle. Doubts arose as my Amish friends and family questioned whether the experience was truly from God. I earnestly sought for truth and biblical answers about whether all the Amish teachings were correct and how accurate the teachings of the churches outside the Amish really were.

A few months after my encounter with Jesus Christ, my wife Lydia also accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. About 6 months later the Lord ministered these words: “Thou shalt leave.” In obedience, we stepped out of the Amish in 1987 with our three small children.

We attended Charity Christian Fellowship on March 8, 1987, were baptized on April 12, and on November 15 I preached my first sermon, titled “Love of the Truth.”

Family, Missions, and Pastoring

After leaving the Amish farm I established B&E Roofing. Lydia and I were blessed with three more children—four sons and two daughters. Today the Lord has given us twelve grandsons and eleven granddaughters.

In 1988, by the amazing providence of God, I traveled to Puerto Rico and met Pastor Carlos Angulo, a wonderful man of God who has remained a very special friend and spiritual father. His prayer life is beyond what I have seen in others and his walk with God has greatly inspired me.

In early 1996, Lydia and I, together with our six children, spent three months as missionaries in Ghana, Africa. In 1997 I helped plant a church in Lancaster PA and was appointed its pastor in May 1998. One of the highlights in my walk with God has been traveling to Pakistan and interacting with Muslim families. I have also enjoyed street outreach in the city of Lancaster.

The Birth and Growth of Equipter

After 15 years running a family roofing company with my sons, we kept losing time and energy to debris removal. Nothing on the market solved it the way we needed, so we designed and built the Equipter 4000.

Since then, as founder of Equipter, we have manufactured innovative, American-made roofing equipment at our facility in Lancaster County. The Equipter 4000 has transformed how thousands of roofing contractors across the United States keep jobsites cleaner, protect homeowners’ property, increase efficiency, and raise the professionalism of their companies. Our newer Equipter models continue that same aspect of practical innovation and uniqueness as the original model.

Walking in Grace and Truth

I endeavor to pursue truth while maintaining a heart of compassion, desiring to be a prophetic voice with a pastoral heart. In Jesus we see that combination in full: He was full of grace and truth. He gave His life because of love, yet was crucified because He spoke the truth. My longing is to walk in those same steps—holding firmly to the truth of God’s Word while extending mercy and love.

I have a strong desire to inspire others to know God and the ways of God. With the understanding and vision that the more we come to know Him, the greater our capacity grows to love Him. This pursuit is one I personally treasure, and I long to encourage others to walk in the same close relationship with the Lord.

Praying for Revival Among the Amish in Lancaster County

Out of this same desire flows a deep, ongoing prayer for a impactful spiritual revival among the Amish here in Lancaster County. During times of extensive fasting and prayer, God has established a settled faith within me; even though darkness covers the earth, I hold the expectation that the knowledge of the glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

God is birthing a Lancaster County Revival—a Revival Among the Amish—that will touch many people.

For the Sake of the Lamb of God

My heart carries a longing to see the people of God become a glorious Church that the Lamb who was slain may receive the full reward of His suffering.

It would be my joy if, by God’s grace, the writings on this website helped awaken a greater love for God, a deeper walk of obedience, and contribute to the making of men and women of God who are so greatly needed in this generation.

If these writings are meaningful to you, you are invited to read further, leave a comment, share your story, or connect with me. I desire to offer what the Lord entrusts to me as one who is still seeking to know God and His ways more deeply.

A Love for the Truth and a Growing Knowledge of God

God offers close, watchful guidance. He wants to gently teach and lead us. Firmer correction and discipline come when we refuse to listen.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle...” Psalm 32:8-9
